De Neve Dining Hall
Want to get a taste of ASC while you're getting an even tastier taste of the famous and delicious food at De Neve Dining Hall? If you're one of ASC's bright and fantastic freshmen, than stop by the Private Dining Room in De Neve. At lunch, there will be a cornucopia of enthusiastic and knowledgeable Executive Board members to answer any questions you have about moving in, surviving classes, and getting involved with the Alumni Scholars Club. This will also be the first opportunity to get to know your fellow first-year Alumni Scholars. We would love to get to know you and hear your stories, so come on down for some food, friendship and fun!

A special guest speaker, an ASC alum, will give insight into what she wishes she had known as an incoming transfer student.

Meet in front of JWAC; Santa Monica Beach
Don't worry, classes haven't started yet! So finish off your Welcome Week the right way by taking a trip to Santa Monica with your friends in ASC. Learn how to take the Big Blue Bus system to the famous 3rd Street Promenade and enjoy games at the beach, shopping, and a lunch with your friends. Meet us in front of the James West Alumni Center (JWAC) and we'll head over to Santa Monica as a group. Remember to bring 4 quarters and your Bruin Card (that is for your bus fare both ways), and also some money for lunch; if you want to hang out on the beach during free time, be sure to bring towels and sunscreen. And we provide the rest! So enjoy some sunshine and make your day something special! No formal RSVP required.

Come discover the world of community service at UCLA! You will have the opportunity to talk to representatives from various service organizations and learn how to get involved in their programs. Interested in receiving writing assistance from a fellow Alumni Scholar? Looking for a flexible peer tutoring program to help you in your lower division math and science classes? Want a chance to earn your 30 service hours by tutoring your fellow Alumni Scholars? If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions, then come to the ASC Tutoring Program's Informational Meeting to learn more about ASC's very own peer tutoring program. Learn more about how you can complete all 30 UCLA service hours by becoming a mentor with Los Angeles Team Mentoring (LATM)! Staff members from LATM will be there to answer any and all of your questions about this fun opportunity. See how you can make an impact on the lives of at-risk middle school students in Los Angeles. Snacks will be provided.

Brush up on your spell-casting and potion-making skills because this Fall Quarterly is going to be Harry Potter themed! Come on down to JWAC for a magical evening filled with enchantments, excitement and entertainment. You'll have the opportunity to meet your fellow scholars as well your new Executive Board. You will also get to hear about all the fantastic events, programs and opportunities that ASC will offer this fall. If you want to become more involved in the club, we will be telling you the details about coordinator positions. Dinner will be included at this extraordinarily fun event. Dressing up as wizards/witches is encouraged but not necessary. See you there!

Learn about the variety of community service opportunities at Upward Bound House, an organization stationed nearby in Santa Monica whose mission is to eliminate homelessness among families with children. A UBH staff member will be present to answer all of your questions and to let you know about the many service opportunities available, including but not limited to: staffing and organizing their on-site food pantry and donation closet; volunteering at their weekly Kids' Night; teaching classes to kids such as yoga and baking; teaching adults Life Skills classes on topics such as resumes, job hunting, and parenting; and much, much more! Snacks will be provided.

Meet in front of the De Neve Turnaround
UCLA FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT! Come support your favorite football team as we take on Washington State! And who better to cheer, clap, and stomp for Bruin Football than with your fellow Alumni Scholars? Washington State is going to be tough but we will show them our determination, our resolve and our unity. We will show them what it means to be a Bruin. It will be a day filled with competition, struggle, and ultimately, victory. Emotions will run high and school spirit will soar. Join us. Note: tickets and bus fare will not be included. We will just be meeting at JWAC and going together as a group.

This training is mandatory for all New Mentors to LATM. LATM staff will thoroughly prepare you for your new roles as mentors. Topics include, but are not limited to, the curriculum, proper conduct with youth and tips to lead an effective group session. Light refreshments will be provided.

Mandatory for all coordinators! New coordinators should arrive at 4 p.m.. Returning coordinators should arrive at 5 p.m.. Coordinators will be introduced to their new committees and work with them in a competition against the other committees. Coordinators will also learn more about their leadership styles, and proceed to have an abbreviated initial committee meeting. Dinner will be served.

Meet at JWAC
We've all been dreading it, but it's about that time: midterms. Have you been cramped up in your room? Maybe bumping elbows with the people next to you in Powell? You need some fresh air to mentally prepare yourself for exams. Join your ASC friends and join us on a hike to the Hollywood Sign! Stretch your legs and come see the iconic Los Angeles landmark. We'll eat lunch before heading over to the Griffith Observatory to explore one of LA's most popular attractions. It's sure to be a good time!

If you want to learn about all the great history and traditions of UCLA, come to UCLA Traditions 101 to meet spirited alumni and scholars. Come meet with your fellow scholars, have your voice heard, build your professional skills, and stay in the know! The all-encompassing meeting is a chance to meet with your fellow scholars and to be a part of shaping the club's future by voicing your opinions and concerns from the viewpoint of a member at large. This year, the All ASC Meeting will also include a presentation on improving your professional skills! "All these fantastic opportunities in one meeting? Can it really be true?" Come and find out! Scholars will also receive two UCLA service hours for attending the All ASC Meeting.
Any Scholar is also welcomed to attend the ASC Executive Board Meeting prior to All ASC Meeting from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Ambassadors will be familiarized with the UCLA Alumni Scholarship Application, requirements for application, and the selection process. Ambassadors will also be instructed on public speaking, presentations, and aided in making appointments with high schools.

ASC's newest leadership and professional development program kicks off with our Fall Seminar. You will get the chance to hear from an accomplished Bruin alumni speaker on how to exercise the first focal skill in our leadership curriculum. The meeting will also provide an opportunity for that new skill to be applied and tested. Upon completion, the leadership curriculum for fall will be under your belt as you progress towards ASC Leadership Certification.

Hey all you fellas and dames! It's New Year's Eve, 1924. Don and MeMe Wannabe are hosting their annual New Year's Eve Bash at their juice joint, The Four Deuces, and you are invited to attend. It is sure to be the bee's knees! The cream, and not so cream, of society will be here. With gangsters, hit men, politicians, jazz singers, molls and many other interesting guests in attendance, there are sure to be a lot of big deals being made here tonight. But be careful! Even though it'll be a rip-roaring time, you better watch your back. All the goons, grifters, and gumshoes have different motives and the only person you can really trust is yourself...This is ASC's second annual Murder Mystery Party and it will be filled with just as much excitement, mayhem, and treachery as last year. Dressing up in character is HIGHLY encouraged. Food and refreshments will be served throughout the event. We look forward to seeing you there!

Not sure if you want to go to graduate school? Curious what the application process is like for professional schools? Come out to the Graduate School Panel! Our panel will feature students who have applied and been accepted into graduate school programs, admissions counselors who review your applications, and insight from non-traditional graduate programs that are offered. We will have alumni featured from business to medicine and public policy to humanities. Look forward to seeing you then!
