Scholarships
In 1936, UCLA alumni began the tradition of raising and awarding scholarships to help deserving students. Since then, more than 6,000 Bruins have received Alumni Scholarships.

Incoming Student Alumni Scholarships
All incoming student Alumni Scholarships are initially awarded through an application screening and interview process. The second-, third- and fourth-year payments of these scholarships are awarded through a Renewal Scholarship.
- The Freshman Alumni Scholarship is a merit based scholarship. All California UCLA freshman applicants who apply in the fall immediately after graduating from a California high school are eligible for this scholarship.
- The Dr. Ralph J. Bunche Alumni Scholarship is dedicated to continuing the legacy of Dr. Ralph J. Bunche '27, class valedictorian, United Nations founder and Nobel Peace Prize winner. These scholarships were established during the 1970s to recognize and support students from historically underrepresented backgrounds who add to the diversity of the UCLA community.
- The Community College Transfer Scholarship (CCTS) focuses on students transferring to UCLA from one of 107 California community college system campuses.
- Out-of-State Scholarships are an outstanding opportunity for highly accomplished students who are not from California to fund their UCLA education. Alumni support groups in Arizona, Boston, Chicago, Hawaii, New York and Oregon sponsored competitions last year.
- UCLA Alumni Association Arts Scholarships were established in 1995 to recognize outstanding, focused achievement in the fields of art; dance; design; music; theater, film and television; and world arts and cultures. High school seniors and community college transfer students with outstanding achievement and potential in the arts are identified by UCLA faculty for the scholarship.
Continuing Student Alumni Scholarships
- The Distinguished Senior Awards offers an opportunity for continuing UCLA students to join the family of Alumni Scholars. These awards emphasize leadership, involvement and service to the UCLA community, as well as academic excellence. Up to twenty students will be selected to receive the Distinguished Senior Awards.
- The Lew and Edie Wasserman Alumni Scholar Grants provide additional financial assistance to continuing students who have already won previous Alumni Scholarships. Because these students have already established a strong record of merit based on their original awards, applicants are evaluated for Wasserman grants using a combination of factors involving both merit and need.
